Make-A-Wish North Texas
Since 1980, Make-A-Wish® has been creating life-changing wish experiences for children with critical illnesses around the world. Wishes have proven physical and emotional benefits that can give children with critical illnesses a higher chance of survival. When a wish is granted, a child replaces fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope. Wishes even reunite families and enrich entire communities. Every eligible child needs a wish to count on!
Make-A-Wish North Texas. Their mission is the following:
Together, they create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. They do require volunteers to be at least 18 years old to grant wishes. However, they have volunteer projects for those who are not 18 yet:
Creating and writing encouraging cards for our wish kids
Hosting a gift card drive (subway, target, amazon, game stop, best buy, etc).
Assembling distraction kits for wish kids who are in hospitals
Creating countdown calendars
All material needs to be covered by the group or individual (there are more specific guidelines available upon request).
They also have a fundraising program – Kids For Wish Kids®- a Make-A-Wish® program that enables students to discover philanthropy by selecting their own fundraising project and managing it from start to finish. Kids do it all – from brainstorming fundraising ideas and developing a plan of action, to seeing their idea come to life while teachers and parents often serve as advisors. Students develop leadership skills, build self-esteem and learn about teamwork while working towards a final goal, making a difference in the life of a child who is fighting overwhelming odds.
